Overland Trails Council Boy Scouts of America Service Center
grand island, Nebraska
This project involved the entire remodel & renovation of an existing 8,211 sq. ft. metal building formerly the Third City Christian Church in Grand Island, NE. The majority of the existing interior was demolished and reconfigured to provide office space, conference rooms and a Boy Scout uniform & supply shop. The exterior windows were replaced as well as all new siding on the entire building. New ADA features were incorporated in this project for handicap accessibility.
From 2008 to 2016, Marvin Webb was a presenter at the Merit Badge University, which is an annual event, that offers more than 70 merit badges. The event draws hundreds of scouts from all over the region each July. Marvin presented the Architecture class. He used the official Merit Badge University workbook, powerpoint on history of architecture and hands-on activities during the class. The goal of the architecture class is to help the Scouts understand that “architecture is more than the elaborate buildings which we all admire but it is the places where we live, work, learn, worship, shop and play every day.” Also, to teach the Scouts that “even the simplest form of architecture is a work of art that requires design thought and planning.”
